Spring Stampede English/Western Horse Show 1999-2007
Robertson Park, Livermore, CA
I started volunteering to help out at the show back in 1999. In 2002 and 2003 I co-managed the show with Russ Shover. In 2004, I took over as Manager. The weather has always been a challenge for a show this time of year (last Sunday in April). It was pouring rain the day before the show in 2005 and still 65 horses and riders showed up to compete. In 2006, we had a whole month of rain in April. The week before the show it cleared up and we had a record number of competitors come out to show that day. 118!
The Show arena at Robertson Park now has a roof so no one has to worry about getting sunburned or drenched. We had another great day of showing with 112 horses and riders on April 29, 2007. It was the first time that I had added several classes to the list, including: Showmanship – Green Handler (which I sponsored – watch for my upcoming Showmanship clinic in early 2009!), Gaited Pleasure, SaddleSeat Equitation, Green Horse Pleasure, Green Rider Equitation, and Open classes in each division. Our Judge, Nancy Luck, did an excellent and very efficient job keeping the show running in a timely manner.
It has been a real pleasure managing the Spring Stampede English/Western Horse Show for the past six years. I enjoyed getting to know the competitors and their families. It was always nice to see the same competitors come back year after year and I have seen some real improvements in their horsemanship skills. I also make sure to have cookies and carrots for the horses at every show! I have received many compliments and “thank you”s for putting on a well-run and fun show :)
Good Luck to Stacey Frost and CSHA Region 5 on managing the show on their own for 2008 and on!
